Romford vs Great Wakering at WEMBLEY in the FA VASE final

By Michelle Dorling

Two Essex Senior League teams will face off at the home of football

After Romford remained level Lincoln United over 180 minutes the tie would be settled by penalties, an intense game went to the dreaded penalties after neither side could get that winning goal in normal time. After a crazy shootout it was Jamie Hursit's spot kick that was wrapped in to the left side of the goal that won the tie and sent Romford to Wembley.

An emotional day for all at the club but also a day of wild celebrations, and I'm sure a day to remember at Wembley for all involved with Romford FC.

But who would they be facing........

Up step Great Wakering Rovers, tasked with a 1-0 deficit it was all to play for, Jake Gordon set the second leg on fire with a volley to level the tie. A Worcester City goal meant that yet again Wakering had it all to do, a late Max Gnandi strike meant that the semi final would be decided by a penalty shootout.

With the scores at 4-4 after 5 penalties each, it meant this shootout would be decided in sudden death, Wakering dispatched their 6th penalty, and the penalty hero would be Luis Shamshoum saving low to his right and sending Wakering to Wembley.
